Veterans’ Villages consist of tiny homes arranged in an inward-facing, barracks-style layout to facilitate peer-to-peer support among residents. Excellence in architecture and landscape design is a crucial component of the building process and the ultimate village outcome. The goal is for our Veterans’ Villages to make a positive contribution to the host community while instilling a sense of pride, identity, and ownership among the residents.
Each Veterans’ Village is unique to the community and is a comprehensively planned, multi-family housing development consisting of:
Each of our homes are approximately 300 square feet in size and is fully equipped with all the features of a larger home. Tiny homes are the perfect platform for someone transitioning from living rough: a safe, private, self-contained space in which to keep their belongings, attend to their needs and start on the path to recovery within a community of their peers. These homes are designed to be energy efficient and reduce green house gas emissions.
A recent study by the Max Bell School of Policy Studies at McGill University estimated that there are now up to 10,000 Canadian Veterans living in a state of homelessness across this country. As per the report, there is no single Federal department or agency that is tasked with upholding the right to housing for Veterans. Indeed, it observed that “Veterans face challenges receiving proper care because many service providers lack military cultural competency.”
Homes For Heroes is constructing villages across Canada to address homelessness among Veterans. Our charity is collaborating with Municipal, Provincial, and Federal stakeholders to secure sites for the villages. Additionally, Homes For Heroes receives financial support from corporations, foundations, social groups and Canadians from coast to coast, to fund the construction of these new villages in cities nationwide.
Conversations are being held with all stakeholders to expand and build Veterans’ Villages across Canada. Currently H4HF has Veterans’ Villages in Calgary, Edmonton, and Kingston. Construction planning is in progress for Winnipeg.

thHomes For Heroes’ tiny home village in Kingston is a place of community, camaraderie, and celebration.
Opened in June 2024, the Kingston Veterans’ Village was made possible through the support of all levels of government, national stakeholders, local businesses, social groups, and individuals across Canada. The local steering committee, led by Mark Hutchings, played an instrumental role in the success of this project.
The village’s design pays homage to Kingston’s beautiful architecture, featuring 20 tiny homes, a resource center, case manager offices, therapy rooms, community gardens, and outdoor recreation spaces.
