Delbert Dow Blakney

February 26, 1942 - February 24, 2016

Delbert Dow Blakney was born in Moncton, New Brunswick on February 26th, 1942.  Son of Alice and Delbert Edward Blakney – WWII 1939-1945 Star.

Delbert Dow Blakney joined the military at the age of 17.  He served from 1959 until 1986 with the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, and with the Canadian Provost Corps & Military Police Branch from 1965 until 1986. He received the Canadian Peacekeeping Medal, United Nations in Cyprus and the Canadian Forces Decoration Clasp.

Dell then worked another 10 years as a manager at Quinte Detention Centre.  He continued to stay in touch with his military friends and was instrumental in arranging frequent gatherings and annual reunions bringing active and retired MP’s together.  He belonged to the Pointsmen Association promoting Military Police history and heritage.  His beret was retired to the museum at CFB Borden.

Dell was known for his quick wit and mischievous behaviour.  He loved to make people laugh.  He was known to be quite a character playing practical jokes and enjoyed receiving them as well.

Dell was married to his beloved wife Jackie for 52 years. He was a loving husband and father to his five children and 6 grandchildren.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and his legacy is one of love and teaching honesty, integrity and to be fiercely proud of Canada.

Dell would be honoured to be helping his fellow comrades even posthumously.  It is a testament to the incredible caring man that he was.

He is loved and missed profoundly by all who knew him.

Forever Remembered, Forever Honoured.
